May 27, 1703 is the day of the foundation of St. Petersburg and the Peter and Paul Fortress, which is depicted on the wall of our conference room. The Peter and Paul Fortress is a monument of Russian architecture, on which various architects worked. The plan for the fortress was developed by Peter I himself together with the French engineer Lambert de Guerin. The fortress was built in the shape of Hare Island, on which it is located, so that the Swedes, who were threatening Russia, would have nowhere to land. The fortress is part of the historical part of St. Petersburg and, together with the complex of monuments located here, is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Peter and Paul Cathedral is the burial vault of the Russian imperial house of Romanov. Its height is 122.5 meters, for a long time the cathedral remained the tallest building in St. Petersburg. At the very top of the cathedral there is a figure of an angel with a cross. According to the charter of St. Petersburg, the angel on the spire of the Peter and Paul Fortress is a historical symbol of the city.
The Rostral Column is the second landmark of the image decorating our conference room. The two rostral columns were erected in 1805-1810 according to the design of the French architect Thomas de Thomon, who decorated them with the rostra of ships on both sides of Vasilievsky Island. This personification shows the power and greatness of the state navy. You can see these and other landmarks of the city of St. Petersburg from a helicopter, which is also depicted on the walls of the conference room.
