Peter the Great’s Birthday

On June 9, St. Petersburg celebrates the birthday of Peter the Great — the city’s founder and the first Emperor of Russia. Peter I played a pivotal role in modernizing the country and creating its maritime capital.

The interiors of Domina Pulkovo feature two artistic illustrations of Peter the Great — a tribute to this remarkable historical figure and the era that transformed Russia.

There are at least seven monuments to Peter I throughout St. Petersburg, including the iconic Bronze Horseman, the Monument at St. Michael’s Castle, and The Tsar Carpenter on Admiralteyskaya Embankment.

Each year, the city marks the Emperor’s birthday with festive events:

— flower-laying ceremony at the Peter and Paul Cathedral,

— Peter the Great themed balls and concerts,

— special museum exhibitions and open-air festivals.
