The holiday is celebrated annually on June 12 and unites all citizens of our country regardless of nationality or religion. It is a day when the inhabitants of Russia feel a special pride for their country, its historical and cultural heritage.
History of Russia Day
The Declaration of State Sovereignty of the RSFSR was adopted on June 12, 1990 by the First Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR and signed by the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR Boris Yeltsin. The document stated that from the moment it came into force, the Constitution of the RSFSR became the main law of the country, and Russian laws were prioritized over Soviet laws.
In addition, the declaration guaranteed:
- equal rights for all citizens, public parties and public organizations;
- the principle of separation of legislative, executive and judicial powers;
- as well as strengthening the rights of the regions.
Today, Russia Day is increasingly acquiring patriotic features and is becoming a symbol of national unity of the people of Russia and common responsibility for the present and future of the country. It is a holiday of freedom, civil peace and good harmony of all people on the basis of law and justice.
